Chateau d’Audrieu

The Chateau d’Audrieu, now a hotel, was used by the 12th SS Panzer Division.

They arrived early in 1994 and quickly settled into the chateau. After D-day the a group of Canadians fighting at Putot en Bessin were taken prisoner and marched to the chateau.

They were lined up one by one in the courtyard and massacred.

There is no monument to these men within the grounds of the chateau, but in the village the names of these men and others also killed by the 12th SS Panzer Division are recorded.

These Germans were part of the Hitler Youth.
