Douvres La Délivrande

The British Cemetery at Douvres is the final resting place for 927 British servicemen, although in keeping with many British Cemeteries other nationalities both allies and foe lie together here. The Commonwealth are represented with the graves of 11 Canadians and three Australians. There is one Polish soldier buried here and most strangely his grave is apart from all the others. There are also 180 German soldiers also interned here who possibly died in the British field hospital set up in a local convent shortly after D-day. As with all the British Cemeteries the German, and Polish stones are of a different design.
