French Commando's

Sword Beach                                   Grandcamp Maisey

The French Commanders led by Commandant Phillip Kieffer landed in the first wave on the eastern edge of Sword Beach in the first wave on D-day. The monument is placed on top of Wn 18

They were successful in liberating Riva Bella and Ouistreham as depicted in the film "The Longest Day" which was actually filmed in Port en Bessin.

After the war Commandant Keiffer retired to Grandcamp Maisy and is buried in the local cemetery. Just behind the monument to Frank Peregory
