Memorial Day 2008

Memorial day was held in the American Cemeteries in Europe on Sunday the 25th of May. At Colleville in Normandy the ceremony started at 10:30 with a fly past by the  American Air Force based in England. Prayers were said by local religious leaders, and Memorial Day addresses given by Mrs Virginia Murray from the US Consulate in Rennes, Patrick Thomines the local Mayor, Michel Bart the Prefect of Lower Normandy and Lieutenant General Gary Speer who commands the US 7th Army in Europe. Flowers were laid by many local and American groups and my adopted graves had flowers put on them by my visitors and also by a delightful group of young ladies who serve in the US forces based in Germany. As usual the band was the French Military band from Rennes and troops came from the 18th Signal Regiment from Caen and the America was represented by the 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion based in Germany.
