Memorial Day 2009

Memorial day in the American Cemetery is always kept on the nearest Sunday to the American holiday. This year the 65th anniversary of D-day it was the 24th of May.

As usual there was a good turnout of both French and Americans, most had brought flowers to lay on the graves and the Association les Fleurs de la Memoire were on hand to give flowers to those who had arrived without any.

Both the American's and French had troops participating in the ceremony and there was a fly past by American planes stationed in England.

I had the Brown family with me and they are an American service family based in Germany who came especially to Normandy for Memorial Day. They were interviewed by French television whilst laying flowers at my adopted graves.
